Cottage Quilt Designs August 2006

WITH ONLY a month more of summer vacation, now is a good time to check out the fall and Christmas patterns offered here. A new Christmas pattern
called Christmas Stars is ready. It is a quick pieced and attractive table and placemat pattern that looks great in any of the new
Christmas fabrics appearing in the quilt shops now. Also another pattern will be ready
soon for those of you who like appliqué. It's a companion pattern to the Winter Friends wall hanging. It will have a
tablemat with cardinals and pine boughs and berries. Also in the pattern will be instructions
and designs for placemats with chickadees.

THE PATTERN ON SALE this month is Winter Friends-an attractive and easy pattern with fusible web appliqués.

QUILTING TIP: Do you know how to make berries for hand appliqué? Place a coin on the back of the berry fabric and trace around it with a pencil.
Remove the coin, cut out around the tracing leaving a ¼" seam allowance. Stitch a running stitch in the seam allowance. Put back the
coin in the traced circle and pull up the thread making a yoyo. Press on the front and
back. Remove the coin and draw up the thread again. You have a perfect berry to appliqué on your block or border!

Happy and successful quilting!
